Guide To Application Of Epoxy Flooring In Your House

Before you start, have a look at the manufacturer's directions and consider these instructions step-by-step for the right application of the epoxy floors:

  • Clean The Concrete Surface

Use the scraper and shovel with a flat edge to remove all the hard debris on the concrete surface. Next, wash off the floor with a vacuum cleaner. Prepare the degreasing or cleaning mixture, following the manufacturer's directions to clean the grease and oil stains. Make sure you wear rubber gloves for safety.

  • Wet The Floor

With the help of a hose, wet the whole surface with water. Using a power scrubber and degreasing solution, clean the floor, working in a five-foot square section.

Scrub off the corners and the wall edges where the machine can not reach using the stiff-bristle brush. After cleaning the floor, draw out the soapy water in the center area with a rubber squeegee. Wash off the solution with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner.

  • Prepare Acid-Etching Solution

Take a plastic sprinkler can and pour water into it. Mix 12 ounces of muriatic acid-32% and 15 cups of water. Make sure to wear the vapor respirator. Stir the mixture for some seconds using a paint stirrer. Next, evenly sprinkle the mixture over the entire floor in a 10x10-foot section.

  • Scrub & Etch

Scrub the floor for 10 minutes. Again repeat the sprinkling process till the entire floor does not get acid etched. Wash the surface 3 times to remove any acid residue. Keep the floor overnight to dry well.

  • Mix Epoxy Coating

Using a stirring bit and drill, properly blend the two epoxy solutions. Ensure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for effective mixing. Next, pour the mixture into another container and mix the paint again to ensure a thorough blending.

  • Apply Epoxy Coat

Use a roller to paint the floor. Dip it into a paint bucket and cover only the half bottom part. Start the application of the epoxy in the 4-foot square section and the "W" pattern.

Do a backroll to fill up the pattern and remove the marks of the roller. Ensure the edges remain wet on moving section-wise so that the lines do not form. Wait as per the manufacturer's directions to let the first epoxy coating dry.

  • Apply Second Coat

If you do not want your epoxy floors to be glossy, mix non-slip floor coating in the epoxy mixture and start applying the second coat. Stir the mixture well using a stirring bit and drill. Repeat the same process as in the first application.

Moreover, if you want to add decorative flakes, spread them lightly when the floor surface is slightly wet.

Conclusion

Top-quality floors are very essential; they are the foundation of the house. In addition to being durable, versatile, easy to maintain, and environment-friendly, epoxy floors are aesthetically appealing.

All these qualities make epoxies an ideal option to renovate your home flooring. We hope you understood every step correctly. Do hire the professionals for the right application, assuring long-lasting epoxy floors.
